“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;” John 11:25 KJV
The death of Lazarus was a vindication of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as it concerns resurrection.
When Mary and Martha invited Jesus Christ to visit their sick brother to heal him, they were confident he would not die of the sickness so long as Jesus came to pray for him.
Unfortunately, Lazarus was dead and buried before Jesus Christ arrived. The discussion that ensued between Jesus and Martha showed that Martha knew resurrection as a future event.
However, Jesus Christ emphatically stated that resurrection was also in the present, because He Jesus is the resurrection and the life. He declared to them, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this” John 11:25-26. They should therefore expect a manifestation.
Many Christians have spent many years as believers in Jesus Christ, yet manifest shallow faith or unbelief. Even when the written word of God is clear on the omnipresence and omnipotence of God, many of us still doubt God's power and ability.
Despite the weakness of our faith, the outstretched hand of God is beckoning us for an embrace.
Do you sometimes by your actions and utterances doubt the resurrection power?
Father, please help me to hold on to the resurrection and life IJN.
Shalom!
